Here’s a simple recipe for Turkish bread:
Ingredients:
- 500 grams of all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon of instant yeast
- 1 teaspoon of sugar
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 300 milliliters of warm water
- 2 tablespoons of olive oil
- Sesame seeds (optional, for topping)
Instructions:
- In a small bowl, dissolve the sugar and yeast in warm water. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture and olive oil.
- Stir the ingredients together until a rough dough forms. Then, transfer the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
- Grease a clean bowl with some olive oil and place the dough in it. Cover the bowl with a kitchen towel and let the dough rise in a warm place for about 1 to 2 hours, or until it doubles in size.
- Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F).
- Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release any air bubbles. Transfer it back to the floured surface and divide it into equal-sized portions, depending on how big you want your bread.
- Shape each portion into a round or oval shape and place them onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Leave some space between the breads for them to expand.
- Optional: Brush the tops of the bread with some water and sprinkle sesame seeds on top for added flavor and texture.
- Bake the bread in the preheated oven for about 15 to 20 minutes, or until they turn golden brown and sound hollow when tapped on the bottom.
- Once baked, remove the bread from the oven and let them cool on a wire rack.
Turkish bread is best enjoyed fresh and warm. You can serve it with dips, spreads, or use it to make sandwiches or kebabs. Enjoy your homemade Turkish bread!
