Turkish bread

Here’s a simple recipe for Turkish bread:

Ingredients:

  • 500 grams of all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon of instant yeast
  • 1 teaspoon of sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 300 milliliters of warm water
  • 2 tablespoons of olive oil
  • Sesame seeds (optional, for topping)

Instructions:

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve the sugar and yeast in warm water. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture and olive oil.
  3. Stir the ingredients together until a rough dough forms. Then, transfer the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  4. Grease a clean bowl with some olive oil and place the dough in it. Cover the bowl with a kitchen towel and let the dough rise in a warm place for about 1 to 2 hours, or until it doubles in size.
  5. Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F).
  6. Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release any air bubbles. Transfer it back to the floured surface and divide it into equal-sized portions, depending on how big you want your bread.
  7. Shape each portion into a round or oval shape and place them onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Leave some space between the breads for them to expand.
  8. Optional: Brush the tops of the bread with some water and sprinkle sesame seeds on top for added flavor and texture.
  9. Bake the bread in the preheated oven for about 15 to 20 minutes, or until they turn golden brown and sound hollow when tapped on the bottom.
  10. Once baked, remove the bread from the oven and let them cool on a wire rack.

Turkish bread is best enjoyed fresh and warm. You can serve it with dips, spreads, or use it to make sandwiches or kebabs. Enjoy your homemade Turkish bread!
