Ingredients:
For the Cake:
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 4 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
For the Butter Sauce:
- 3/4 cup unsalted butter
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 3 tablespoons water
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 325°F (163°C). Grease and flour a bundt pan.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Add softened butter to the dry ingredients, and mix until the mixture becomes crumbly.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together buttermilk, eggs, and vanilla extract.
- Slowly add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until well combined. Scrape down the sides of the bowl to ensure everything is incorporated.
- Pour the batter into the prepared bundt pan and smooth the top with a spatula.
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 55-65 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- While the cake is baking, prepare the butter sauce. In a saucepan, combine the butter, sugar, and water. Cook over medium heat, stirring frequently, until the sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
- Once the cake is done, remove it from the oven and let it cool in the pan for about 10 minutes.
- Poke holes in the warm cake using a skewer or fork. Pour the butter sauce over the cake, making sure to distribute it evenly.
- Allow the cake to cool completely in the pan before inverting it onto a serving plate.
- Slice and serve. Optionally, you can dust the cake with powdered sugar or add a dollop of whipped cream when serving.
