Chilli Chicken is a popular Indo-Chinese dish known for its spicy and flavorful profile. Here’s a simple recipe for making Chilli Chicken at home:

Ingredients:

For Marination:

  • 500g boneless chicken, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon chili sauce
  • 1 teaspoon ginger-garlic paste
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

For Batter:

  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • Water (as needed to make a thick batter)
  • Salt to taste

For Sauce:

  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 cup bell peppers (capsicum), diced
  • 1 cup onions, diced
  • 2 green chilies, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon chili sauce
  • 1 tablespoon tomato ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Spring onions, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions:

1. Marinate the Chicken:

  • In a bowl, combine chicken pieces with soy sauce, chili sauce, ginger-garlic paste, salt, and black pepper. Let it marinate for at least 30 minutes.

2. Prepare Batter:

  • In another bowl, mix all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add water to make a thick batter. Dip the marinated chicken pieces into the batter.

3. Fry the Chicken:

  • Heat oil in a pan for deep frying. Fry the battered chicken pieces until they are golden brown and crispy. Remove and set aside.

4. Prepare the Sauce:

  • In a separate pan, heat 2 tablespoons of oil. Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté until aromatic.
  • Add diced bell peppers, onions, and green chilies. Cook until the vegetables are slightly tender but still have a crunch.
  • Mix in soy sauce, chili sauce, tomato ketchup, vinegar, sugar, salt, and pepper. Stir well.

5. Combine Chicken with Sauce:

  • Add the fried chicken pieces to the sauce. Toss until the chicken is well-coated with the sauce.

6. Garnish and Serve:

  • Garnish with chopped spring onions.
  • Serve the Chilli Chicken hot, either as an appetizer or with steamed rice or noodles.
