Amish Cinnamon Bread

Amish Cinnamon Bread is a delightful sweet bread with a cinnamon sugar swirl running through it. Here’s a popular recipe for it:

Ingredients:

For the bread:

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 2 cups buttermilk

For the cinnamon sugar swirl:

  • 2/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

For the topping:

  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions:

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two 9×5-inch loaf pans.
  2. Prepare Batter: In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and 2 cups of granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  3. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour and baking soda. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the creamed mixture alternately with the buttermilk, beginning and ending with the flour mixture. Mix until just combined.
  4. Make Cinnamon Sugar Swirl: In a small bowl, combine 2/3 cup granulated sugar and 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon to create the cinnamon sugar swirl.
  5. Layer Batter and Cinnamon Sugar: Divide half of the batter evenly between the prepared loaf pans. Sprinkle half of the cinnamon sugar mixture over the batter in each pan. Add the remaining batter to each pan and then sprinkle the remaining cinnamon sugar mixture on top.
  6. Create Swirl: Use a knife or skewer to swirl the cinnamon sugar mixture into the batter in a swirling motion.
  7. Make Topping: In a small bowl, combine 2 tablespoons granulated sugar and 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon. Sprinkle this topping evenly over the batter in both pans.
  8. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 45 to 50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Cool: Allow the bread to cool in the pans for about 10 minutes, then remove them from the pans and transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
  10. Serve: Once cooled, slice and serve the Amish Cinnamon Bread. Enjoy it warm or at room temperature.

This bread is perfect for breakfast, brunch, or as a sweet treat any time of the day. It also makes a wonderful homemade gift for friends and family!
